Lifetime effects: The High/Scope Perry Preschool Project (40yr Research)

The High/Scope Educational Research Foundation published its 40 year research in 2005. This landmark, long-term study of the effects of high quality early years settings on low-income three- and four-year-olds shows that adults at age 40 who experienced  High/Scope in their early years have higher earnings, are more likely to hold a job, have committed fewer crimes, and are more likely to have graduated from high school. Overall, the study documented return to society of more than a $17 for every tax dollar invested in the early years programme.

At a time in the UK when the Government has published its 10 Year Childcare Strategy this research together with the significant Effective Provision of Pre-School Education ( EPPE)  report on child development of three to seven year olds reinforces how the High/Scope Approach in the UK represents a major implementation solution for early years settings.
