The Problem Solving Approach to Social Conflict - Supporting Children to Develop Positive Behaviour One Day Course

The High/Scope Approach to problem solving social conflict has gained a national reputation with all those working with children from toddlers to pre-teens.

Children having conflicts and disputes over materials, space or friends with peers are a normal part of the day in settings. Adults may find this behaviour challenging and feel unsure as to how to resolve these situations so that they become ‘win-win’ experiences for children and adults.

This one day course focuses on practice validated ways to resolve conflicts that provide valuable learning experiences for children and gives them life long skills to solve their conflicts.

The day combines information from the facilitator, active learning and video examples of best practice.

Objectives for the day include:

  • Thinking about interaction strategies
  • Exploring our reactions to social conflict
  • Looking and why conflicts happen and how we can prevent them
  • Looking at different styles in addressing conflicts
  • Introducing the six steps to resolving social confict
  • Looking at additional positive strategies we can use  - Don’t Say Don’t, ‘I’ statements
  • Exploring encouragement and behaviour change
